#SONGMINHO

 

WINNER, the group Song Min Ho is in, debuted in 2014. The group won through a survival program on Mnet called <WHO IS NEXT: WIN>, where they battled against iKON to determine who would debut. The sweat and hard work of both WINNER and iKON captured the hearts of many who watched the show. Through the popularity they earned with the survival program and with their hit song, ‘EMPTY’, WINNER skyrocketed to stardom. In 2017, they set the record as the first male idol group to hit 100 million streams. 

 

WINNER uses a variety of genres for their music, such as hip hop, acoustic, ballad, and more. Their songs give both a sense of comfort, while also giving off progressive, trendy vibes. Making this kind of music is no easy feat. Not only are each of the members extremely talented, but it would also mean that they put a lot of thought behind the production of the music. Song Min Ho’s talents especially stand out here. Beyond making his own solo music, he has also participated in the production of songs by fellow singers such as Lee Hi, Yoon Jong Shin, Epik High, and more.

 

#HIPHOP #BOBBY

Song Min Ho became a YG trainee at the age of 17. Preluding that, he was briefly a member of Block B, and he continues to stay close with the Block B members even today. Before debuting as WINNER, Min Ho also worked as the rapper of boy band BoM. BoM disbanded in 2013, but by that point, Song Min Ho’s musical talents were already being widely discussed and recognized.

 

Song Min Ho is respected not just as ‘WINNER Song Min Ho’ but also as ‘Rapper Song Min Ho’. The steady articulation when he raps make it easy to listen to, and his low voice is easy on the ears. After debuting with WINNER, he went on to Mnet’s hip-hop survival program, <SHOW ME THE MONEY Season 4>, and finished as a semi-finalist. The fact that a debuted and already-successful singer went on to such a competitive program showed how big his passion and love for music was. 

 

In 2016, he worked with BOBBY of iKON in a unit called ‘MOBB (MINO+BOBBY)’. There are many artists who love hip-hop in YG Entertainment, but the hearts and minds of these two were especially compatible. They persevered together through the period of their lives as trainees, working hard on their freestyle rap and dance. Apparently they even worked at night, using the flashlights on their phones to light up the dark practice room as they honed their rap and dance skills. This was how they dealt with the anxieties and stress they had about the future. 

 

#PERFECTIONIST

Song Min Ho is the type of person who, once he sets a goal, will work towards it until he is good at it. He doesn’t miss the small details while producing music, and if a note doesn’t sound right or if a word doesn’t seem to belong, he will relentlessly mull over and eventually fix it. He also pays a lot of attention to his weight. He lost ten kilograms by controlling his diet and working out. Although he’s thorough with himself, when he’s with others he becomes the life of the party. He is sensitive and can be full of tears, but he is also very playful. He provided a lot of laughs on a show when he spread out a several toy rubber ducks and took a foot bath. Song Min Ho has also been consistently journaling every day, since before his debut. He says he does this because, if time passes and a memory fades away, then it would mean that that period of time disappears as well.

 

#DRAWING #VARIETYGENIUS

Song Min Ho is talented not only in music but in many other departments. He is especially good at drawing. He was responsible for the illustrations on the jacket of WINNER’s second record, <EXIT:E>, and he also drew often on the variety show <NJTTW Spin-Off Kang’s Kitchen>. Typically, he has drawn people, objects, and the like, exaggerating specific characteristics to create caricatures that were expressed in an almost ridiculous manner. But he has, since then, set a goal of learning how to use paints to create oil-paintings in the future. He has also said he hopes to open an exhibition in the future. Lately, he has also picked up the hobby of DIY-ing clothes with a sewing machine WINNER’s Kim Jin Woo gifted to him on his birthday.

 

Song Min Ho brought a lot of laughter through his casting on <NJTTW> and <Kang’s Kitchen>, and earned attention on TV or radio programs by showing off his individual talents, like ‘Acting Like A Sparkling Water,’ ‘Copying A T-Rex,’ ‘Imitating Namolla Family’s Go Jang Hwan,’ and more. He astonishes many PDs on variety programs with his skills in playing games. As a result, Song Min Ho also has earned himself many different nicknames: Song Finger•Song Thumb, and most recently, he has also been called a ‘Variety Genius’. 

 

#CAT #KENDRICKLAMAR

Besides music, Song Min Ho really cherishes his family and his cat. His younger sister is Dana of the girl group New F.O., and they actively support one another. Dana even went to the final battle of <WIN> to cheer for her brother. Min Ho, who raises a cat, also garnered attention by saying he preferred cats over dogs in <NJTTW Season 3>. Min Ho also looks up to Kendrick Lamar, who he cited as his role model. At the same time, Song Min Ho also is and is becoming a role model for many of his juniors. The group I.M. picked Zico, G-Dragon, and Song Min Ho as their role models. 

 

#SOLO #WORLDTOUR

Song Min Ho has mentioned plans to release a solo album. CEO of YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun Suk, revealed on his social media that, “WINNER’s Song Min Ho has officially finished recording for his solo album. We will fully step on the accelerator from here on out!” WINNER will also begin their tour, starting from Seoul on August 19th, then going on to perform in Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore, Manila, Jakarta, and more.
